I thought I would list some of the books I have read recently and recommend.
Probably the best book I have ever read. I will probably review it sometime soon. Money and time well invested.
Definitely a top five for me. Probably the single greatest exposition of the kingdom of God I have come across. And more than that, some inspiration to actually do something.
A very good approach to reading the Bible and understanding what it means to live under the authority of Scripture.
A good analysis of American Christianity.
Not for the faint of heart! If you want to have your practices as a Christian put under the microscope, read this. While not always right, the authors definitely give us some food for thought (and hopefully action).
I'm not finished yet, but the book is an attempt to provide guidlines for approaching politics in a fashion consistent with Jesus' own thinking. Will anger Republicans and Democrats (but probably Republicans the most). Interesting given the run up to the current election.

If you've read any of these I would be interested in your thoughts.

I can see that you are a reader! As a third grade teacher, I love to see people READ! Reading is my favorite thing to do besides play with grandchildren! I'll check some of those out this summer...in my spare time.
zach,
sam has 'simply christian' - i haven't read it yet, but due to your high recommendations, i'll probably make that a priority. out of curiosity, have you read 'radical restoration' by f. lagard smith or 'unChristian' by david kinnaman?

Tyree,
Thanks for dropping by! Long time no see. I haven't read either book but am familiar with the premises of both. They are actually on my list and I will probably have them read within a month. Smith's "Who Is My Brother?" was a pivotal read in my life. Have you read the two you mentioned? If so, what were your thoughts?
Zach, I have read 'Radical Restoration' and thought it was outstanding. Very thought-provoking. Unfortunately, I was left with the feeling of, "but none of this will ever happen" (which is why he calls it 'radical' - it would take quite a change of tradition in the church to get back to that). Anyway, let me know your thoughts on it. I have read parts of 'unChristian' and have found it very interesting - sad to see how 'outsiders' view Christianity, but informative and important for us to know in order to reach them.
Hey Zach,
Just read and replied to your post on 2 Peter 3. Also, looking over your books, you might enjoy reading "Simple Church" by Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger. That book really helped us to align our mission statement with our discipleship process.
Nice to hear from you.
